ARTIST BIO

YAO born Yordy in Colombia and later adopted to the Netherlands, he is more than just an artist. He’s a messenger of spiritual awareness, a guardian of nature, and a raw, revolutionary voice in conscious hip hop.

His name, YAO, merges his birth name (Yordy) with the names given by his adoptive parents (Andras & Oliver), symbolizing a life shaped by transformation. As a baby, he survived a fire attack by his stepfather, leading to years in foster care and eventually adoption. Those early traumas never left, but they became the fuel for his voice. At age 12 he already struggled whit addictions, Yao found refuge in writing and beats, discovering the power of words as a way to process pain, reclaim identity, and build a new reality.

His style is rooted in spirituality, ancestral wisdom, indigenous cosmology, and frequency science. His music moves between raw emotion and sacred code, touching on social justice, healing, and awakening. Inspired by artists like Tupac, Immortal Technique, Supaman, Beast 1333 and collectives like Dead Prez, Army of the pharaos,Hieroglyphics, and Savage famaly Yao’s sound is both revolutionary and mystical. His personal journey includes deep spiritual experiences from psychosis to what he now calls DNA activations that brought him into contact with his ancestors and aligned him with his higher path.

What started as angry, hard-edged protest music has evolved into something more refined: hip hop that still burns, but no longer destroys. Music that heals. His voice is fire – but fire that you can touch. Cold fire. Medicine.

YAO works solo, but also as one half of the duo Possed by Nature with his partner Amby. Together, they lead CTD Movement (Connect the Dots Movement) – a collective of spiritually driven artists committed to conscious expression. In 2025, they will release the album The Rapsoulution in collaboration with Sa-Roc and Sol Messiah, set to premiere live at Paradiso Amsterdam on October 7th.

Outside of music, Yao is the founder of Het Positiviteits Netwerk (The Positive Network) a holistic health-care initiative that supports young artists in developing their talents through self-awareness, community, and sustainable creative paths. Through this platform, he offers tools for healing,awakening artistic growth, and long-term vision.

The core mission behind all of Yao’s platforms is to help shape a new generation of positive role models, artists who lead with purpose, stay connected to their roots, and choose creation over destruction. Whether through music, mentorship, or movement building, Yao inspires others to live consciously, rise above trauma, and embody their highest potential.

His mission is clear: to use hip hop as a vehicle for awakening, reconnection, and resistance. To bring spirit back into sound. And to remind the world that healing is revolutionary.
